Celebrating Deepavali in Singapore

Deepavali, also popularly known as the “Festival of Lights”, is derived from the Sanskrit word “dipavali,” meaning “row of lights”. This festivity symbolises the triumph of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and good over evil. It is one of the most widely celebrated Festivals in Singapore. It is a public holiday in Singapore.

In celebration of Deepavali, various activities are happening in Little India. From mesmerising light displays to delicious traditional delicacies, it is the best time to explore the colourful and rich heritage of Indians. Below are some highlights of the Deepavali Celebrations you might be interested in witnessing during the holiday.

The Festival Village is also the place for all those who love shopping. 4. Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple

Visit one of Singapore’s oldest Hindu temples on Serangoon Road, the Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple. It is a popular destination for locals and tourists who come to enjoy its unique atmosphere during Deepavali celebrations. During the festival, thousands of diyas (lamps) light up the temple, creating a serene and sacred ambience. Special prayers and ceremonies throughout the day allow visitors to connect with their spiritual side.
